Never grow old, it's not worth the risk As alarm bells ring, tied to your wrist Just when we both start to move on Something drags us further behind Never grow old, this game isn't fair got me clutching at straws, pulling out my hair I can barely look after myself So how am I meant to take care of you? So come on now, I know you can do it So come on now, just a little more So come on now, I know you can do it So come on now, just a little more Never grow old, I wouldn't take that chance If you let it in, honey that's your last 'Cause time takes more than days and years Now you don't even know who I am Never grow old, it doesn't seem much fun When they give you wheels when you want to run Tubes and veins and surgical lights Man I wish they'd leave it alone So come on now, I know you can do it So come on now, just a little more So come on now, I know you can do it So come on now, just a little more Never grow old, it's not worth the risk With a hospital tag, wrapped round your wrist I wish we had a little longer left I've still got so much left to say.

These books are yellowed at the edge Dust is creeping down the spine Like brown leaves cracking on a hedge Like tasting cork inside the wine I find harrow quite the word For it reminds me that I'm just a man I find living quite the verb And I'll help you anyway I can You're breaking up I'm breaking down Fall to the floor With a sickening thud You're breaking up Darling I'm breaking down With an aching heart And thickening blood. Well I've still got this shred of hope Albeit torn from someone else's cloth I'll take anything with scope I'd give anything to stop this rot You're breaking up I'm breaking down Fall to the floor With a sickening thud You're breaking up Darling I'm breaking down With an aching heart And thickening blood. I will care for you If you get worse I'll lay you in my bed Try and stop the hurt I will care for you If you get worse I'll lay you in my bed Try and stop the hurt

You've got a hole in your heart I've got this sense of dread I've known since we were young From all those books I read I see you getting weaker Never needed to paws for thought We ran those coastal bleakers 'Till both our feet were raw You were all I wanted And you still are But as we grow that much older I know the end's not far You've got a thorn in your paw This one I can't retract The stairs present a challenge Where once a stage to act The family's bracing themselves But I can't let go yet They don't know what they're saying I never trusted vets You were all I wanted And you still are But as we grow that much older I know the end's not far Hold up, hold up, I'll hold my ground Pull close, pull close and I'll pull round For you... I want you always with my I know it's a lost cause You are my very best friend I hope that I've been yours You were all I wanted And you still are But as we grow that much older I know the end's not far I know the end's not far I know the end's not far I know the end's not far

about

'The Medical Journal, Vol I' is a collection of songs that whilst fit together nicely in of themselves, don't quite match anything else that I've written.

Rather than consigning them to history or b-sides, I thought I'd do something with them. If ever this happens again, I'll bring out Vol II and so on etc.

I really hope you all enjoy these songs, and if you're going through some of the themes in the songs, then hopefully you can take some comfort in them.

The biggest of thanks to George, Owain and Jack. You're all great.

about

Alex Fox Chelmsford, UK

Hailing from rural, coastal Essex, Alex Fox allies traditional songwriting and arrangements with contemporary themes - not too surprising given his background of classical piano and growing up in alternative and indie rock bands. Add his unique, soaring vocals and quite a heady mix is achieved. ... more
